    I live in the high desert, above 1300 metres. In the high desert – every moment of daylight an exposure to the unfiltered sun – driving a rural public transit three to five hundred kilometers a day, my skin takes a beating. At nearly seventy-four years of age, Welsh born, having spent decades in the Tropics of Africa and Asia, my skin, through diet and healthful living, despite and still, appears much younger than I am. The sun is unavoidable. Rather than use chemical-based sun screens, I care for my skin in other ways; now through and with Nécessaire.

    I am a writer, completing a trilogy here, now in its sixth and final year. By this time next year, I will return to my more normal pattern and practice of sharing my time between Wales and France, in Europe, and the Philippines., in Asia. I will keep my base here, but I will no longer drive; so, again, my skin will find the balance it has maintained most of my life.

    Nécessaire – both the Lotion and the Wash – is more than a daily nicety, a placebo, a pretended aid in nurturing my skin; genuine to its claims, it is an essential.

    In a year, I will need to determine how to bring Nécessaire with me to the Philippines, my home away from home, and to Wales the home of my blood, my name. I hope that we will be together for many years to come.
